Go Robot!

Trish has graced me with my very first GO ROBOT piece!!! Its an amazing pendant and I will photo it asap. Thought I would post his fantastic rings today as they remind me a little of my treasured white Indonesian prayer shell ring. You all know the one -- I have been sporting it for about 8 years now - given to me by the lovely Brandon+Dwight Duo. Thanks guys!! Did you have any idea how much play that thing would get? Sadly, my leather barrette would still be in heavy rotation, too, if a certain someone didn't lift it.

Check out GO ROBOT in the Smashing Darling Blog today. VERY cool slideshow. His work is so unique and beautiful.

Spring, please hurry.

I just decided yesterday that I am ready for Spring. I really enjoyed this last snowstorm because I did not have to go anywhere but now I am done. So, come on Spring. You can do it.

Happy Birthday!!

Happy Birthday to my LOVE. You are so kind and generous and I am so lucky to have you in my life. I hope that this is the best birthday ever - apart from having stitches removed from your head this a.m...

Smashing Darling Turns 1

Happy One Year Birthday (um, yesterday...oooops) to Smashing Darling! Thanks to the girls for ALL of their incredible support and opportunities for Whosie and hundreds of other independent designers. We love Smashing Darling.
P.S. Thats Trish (co-founder of SD) sporting the latest Student Smash Up tee. Its a cupcake silkscreened for the big birthday.

New Studio

Moved my studio this weekend. I love it. I am pretty sure it will NEVER be this clean again. Of course, I have not even transported all of my fabric and "inspirations" yet. I will do my best to stay organized.

Help Save Maromas!

This is Maromas. It is "40 acres of meadow and forest in one of the most pristine wooded areas in Central Connecticut" and a habitat for wildlife -- which as we all know is already incredibly scarce. Plain and simple: The Army wants it for a 273,000 square foot training center.
Not only is this unacceptable for anyone who cares about nature and wildlife but its a pretty heavy load for a friend of mine who's spent decades appreciating this land. Please read this article from the Hartford Courant for more details...

DIY MAG Launches...

This is SUCH an awesome magazine for those interested in the DIY thing. And WHO isn't these days? Its the only way to go.
Notice our very own Smashing Darling layout beginning on PAGE 80. Flip through this! You will not regret it.

Like an Old Friend...

Was browsing through my archives and came across this oldie. I am getting ready to start painting again so I thought I would take a look at some of my old work. Brings me back to what feels like 100 years ago. Greenwich Street, San Francisco circa 2001.

LOVE

It seems that in the circles I revolve in, no one celebrates Valentines Day in the old fashioned Hallmark way... squeezing reservations in at any available restaurant, demanding long stem red roses and gifts. Rather everyone who's mentioned it to me the past few days has said the same sort of thing. Something to the effect of, "Its all about love all the time.". Sounds idealistic but I also believe it to be true.

Bread

Since I didn't have enough on my "plate" (that has multiple meanings, really) already, I thought I'd figure out how to make bread. It only took 2 tries and I ended up with a beautiful loaf of olive and rosemary bread. Its gone already.

A LOVEly Memory

This is a favorite photo of mine. Its the hood of our 1982 Volvo that has since been passed on but will always be close to our hearts. J got this for me for a cool $100. years ago. Rescued it from someone's back yard, where it was growing roots. Those who know our love story, will most likely remember it as a key player. This photo was taken in our driveway in the dead of winter. She was such a beauty and will always be an icon of the early days of our relationship.

Ahhhhhh....Winter.

Well, it appears I do, officially, live in New England again (its been TWO years next week!) after many glorious winters on the West Coast. I took a moment yesterday - out of a dreary, rainy and somewhat stressful day to find a moment of appreciation for the season...in all its neutral splendor.
A typical morning...

My Magical Bathroom

This is not even a "layered" Photoshop image. Its a picture I took the other day looking out at the beautiful tree outside my bathroom window.

P.S. We just came back from "watching" the Superbowl at J's parentals. Translation: Ate all of their delicious SB snacks, flipped through two Saveur's and one Elle Decor, contributed a little to the rating of the commercials and then hit the road before halftime.
